Shiatsu is a form of Japanese bodywork that is based on the meridian system, a network of energetic points and channels that is also used in Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture. It is a deeply relaxing body therapy that uses rhythmic pressure and full-body stretching. Like Western massage, it benefits pain and musculoskeletal dysfunction. But it is also excellent for people trying to address more complex issues such as insomnia, digestion/elimination, internal organ issues, immune function and energy level. Shiatsu can also assist with a healthy emotional life and a re-connection to our authentic self.

Shiatsu is done in loose fitting, comfortable clothing, on a futon mat on the floor. Pressure can be as deep as is necessary for the work to feel effective and satisfying. There is a unique flow to the massage as each limb is stretched and addressed to re-establish a free flow of energy through all parts of the body. Many people report feeling a sense of wholeness, and a return to an easy, natural state of being.
